Crete is one of the largest and most populous of the Greek islands, the 88th largest island in the world and the 5th largest of the Mediterranean islands. Here you can explore glorious beaches, mountainous landscapes, fertile valleys and steep gorges, and take part in the island’s rich gastronomic culture. Crete and several surrounding islands and islets constitute the Region of Crete, which is the southernmost of Greece’s 13 high-level administrative units and the fifth most populous of the Greek regions. Its capital is the largest city Heraklion, on the northern coast of the island. In 2020, the region had a population of about 636,504,

The island is mainly mountainous, and its character is defined by a high mountain range that crosses from west to east. It includes Crete’s highest point, Mount Ida, and the White Mountains range, the Samaria Gorge, a World Biosphere Reserve among other points. Crete forms a significant part of Greece’s economy and cultural heritage, maintaining its own cultural traits, locations and customs.

As I mentioned above, Crete is a very mountainous island, full of valleys and gorges, and from west to east Crete is defined by a high mountain range along with 6 groups of mountains, such as the White Mountains, the Idi Mountains, Asterousia, Kedros and Tripthi Mountains. The mountains have been seen as a key feature of the island’s distinctiveness, especially since the time of romantic travelers’ writing.

Crete is, after all, a small universe full of beauty and treasures which makes it unique.

Conclusion

If you want to have a comfortable and luxurious stay, Crete is the best option, and even if you are not looking for luxury, Crete offers economical options with plenty of comfort.  And for those who like to explore nature, you won’t regret it either.
